Modern HIV diagnostics are undergoing a rapid transformation with the shift towards highly accurate, Point-of-Care (POC) testing devices, a critical development for achieving UNAIDS’ 95-95-95 targets by facilitating immediate diagnosis and linking individuals to life-saving antiretroviral treatment (ART), especially in resource-limited settings. A major recent innovation is the development of single-platform tests that can simultaneously detect both HIV antibodies and the viral genetic material (RNA), which definitively addresses the long-standing challenge of Vaccine-Induced Seropositivity (VISP)—false-positive antibody results in vaccine trial participants.
